To Northeast Florida Women
Women want answers and dialogue about breast cancer from area physicians and experts. In order to expand to accommodate more women, the fifth annual Pink Ribbon Symposium will be held at the Hyatt-Jacksonville (formerly held in Orange Park) on Saturday, October 6 (8:00 am to 1 pm). Founded by Drs. Cynthia Anderson and Linda Sylvester, it is proudly presented by Cancer Specialists of North Florida and F.R.O.G. (Florida Radiation Oncology Group). The event will present important up-to-date information about breast cancer prevention, early detection and treatment options, the side effects of treatment, survivorship, plus good health and wellness topics.
This year’s special guest is former Olympic gold medal winner Peggy Fleming, also a breast cancer survivor. She will share her triumph on the ice, as well as fighting the disease in an up-close and very personal way.
The Symposium is free, and guests will enjoy the Event Expo and be treated to a delicious, healthy continental breakfast. You will learn how to care for your body, how sleep can affect your treatment, and how best to deal with relationships (family, friends). This year the Symposium will offer one session in Spanish.
“On behalf of Pink Ribbon Symposium, we are proud to celebrate our fifth year as we are dedicated to bringing this program to women in his region at no cost and we gratefully thank our sponsors,” states Linda Sylvester, MD, co-founder. “We welcome inquiries for sponsorship, volunteers who would like to join us for the day, and exhibitors interested in reaching out to regional women with products and services.”
About Pink Ribbon Symposium:
This Symposium was founded in 2008, by radiation oncologist Cynthia S. Anderson (Florida Radiation Oncology Group, or F.R.O.G.) and medical oncologist Linda S. Sylvester (Cancer Specialists of North Florida), who together with their Advisory Board, developed it into a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. The event specifically utilizes a forum format in order to allow participants to ask questions and receive constructive guidance about personal concerns regarding any aspect of breast care, breast cancer, survivorship and leading a healthy lifestyle.
About Peggy Fleming:
The keynote speaker is Peggy Fleming, figure skating Olympic gold medalist – and breast cancer survivor. Ms. Fleming will share her thoughts as an outspoken advocate for breast cancer in a very personal way. Her “life Olympics” at diagnosis were challenging as she underwent surgery and treatment, and she is grateful to now be cancer free. A sought-after speaker and broadcaster on ABC Sports for nearly 30 years, she and her husband now enjoy their vineyard, Fleming Jenkins Vineyards & Winery.
