A Primer

Community First Saturdays, a JAX Chamber initiative kicks off this Saturday, October 6th on the Northbank Riverwalk Downtown. We start at 9am behind the Times Union Center of the Performing Arts (Community West) with a Tai Chi class on the St Johns River. Fitness classes, bike valet, and bike tours are just some of the activities planned. JaxParks’ 9th annual Art in the Park will be held in conjunction with this event from 10am to 4pm, featuring hands on arts and crafts activities for kids and families.

Along with our excellent, weekly Riverside Arts Market, Community First Saturdays simply adds to the multiple quality-of-life events on the Riverwalk October 6th including Filipino Pride Day at the Jacksonville Landing, the Pink Ribbon Symposium at the Hyatt, and the Marine Corps Half Marathon which runs through the Riverwalk. Just to name a few!

To cap it all off we’ve capped the Riverwalk’s east end with Community East, a Food Truck Rally, complete with craft beers, sangria, and café tables along the St. Johns, down at the old courthouse parking lot. Those festivities start at 11am and run until dusk.

There is ample parking Downtown and metered street parking is free. JTA has also generously activated the Skyway for FREE from 9am to 5pm, making your excursions to nearby Downtown destinations just a free ride in the sky away.

Please join us for our launch of Community First Saturdays as we celebrate our community, our vibrant Downtown, and our excellent quality of life in the Jacksonville area. Community First Saturdays is made possible by Community First Credit Union and many more benevolent sponsors.

Please use hashtag #ilovejax as you post your experiences and photos on your twitter and the #ilovejax and Community First Saturdays’ Facebook Page!

P.S.- Because you have read this far, it tells me you are an active citizen looking for ways to get involved in the community and Downtown. Please join JAX Chamber and the hundreds of supporters and consider backing One Spark and their kickstarter initiative for their event next Spring.
